Włodzimierz Czarzasty, born on May 3, 1960, is a Polish politician. He is currently the co-leader of the New Left party. He became the Marshal of the Sejm on November 18, 2025. Before this, he served as a Deputy Marshal of the Sejm from 2019 to November 18, 2025.

Włodzimierz Czarzasty has had a long career in Polish politics. He has been involved in various political parties and has held important roles. His journey includes student activism and leadership positions in the Polish parliament.
Early Life and Education
Mr. Czarzasty was born in Warsaw, Poland. He grew up in the capital city. In the 1980s, he attended the University of Warsaw. There, he studied journalism and political science. During his time at university, he was an active member of the Polish Students' Association. He also belonged to the Polish United Workers' Party from 1983 to 1990.
Political Career Beginnings
After the end of Communism in Poland, Mr. Czarzasty joined the Democratic Left Alliance (SLD). This party was a successor to his earlier political group. In the 1997 general election, he ran for a seat in the parliament but was not elected.
In May 1999, President Aleksander Kwaśniewski appointed him to a national council. This council was responsible for radio and television broadcasting. Later, in January 2016, Mr. Czarzasty became the new leader of the Democratic Left Alliance. He took over from Leszek Miller, who was a former Prime Minister. In 2018, he also ran for a regional assembly position but was not elected.
Serving in the Sejm
In the 2019 parliamentary election, Mr. Czarzasty played a key role. He co-led the Lewica (The Left) political group. He worked alongside Adrian Zandberg and Robert Biedroń. He was successfully elected to the Sejm, which is the lower house of the Polish parliament. He represented the Sosnowiec area.
On November 12, 2019, Mr. Czarzasty was chosen for an important leadership role. He became a Deputy Marshal of the Sejm, representing Lewica. In July 2021, there was a discussion within the New Left party. Mr. Czarzasty addressed some party members who publicly shared different opinions. This led to talks about how decisions are made within the party.
In the 2023 elections, he was re-elected to the Sejm. He received 22,332 votes from his constituency. On November 13, 2023, he was again elected as a Deputy Marshal of the Sejm. He served in this role under Szymon Hołownia.
On November 18, 2025, Włodzimierz Czarzasty took on an even more significant role. He became the Marshal of the Sejm. This position is one of the highest leadership roles in the Polish parliament.
