Wail of the Banshee facts for kids
Wail of the Banshee is a fantasy TV show for children that first aired in 1992. It has seven parts and was shown on CITV. The show was made by Central Television.
What's the Story?
The legend of the Banshee is based on real events in this show. Long ago, an alien race called the Lamia came to Earth. These aliens were scientists who didn't care about right or wrong. They saw humans as nothing more than creatures to experiment on. In their language, the word for humans meant lab rats.
Why They Are Called Banshees
The Lamia got their name because of the sounds their spaceships made. When a ship hovered, it made a low, throbbing sound, like "baaaan-baaaan-baaaan". When it took off, it made a whooshing sound, like "sheeeeee". Put these sounds together, and you get "Baan-sheee," which became "Banshee."
The Banshee's Wail
The Lamia have a special power. They can make a very high-pitched sound from their throats. This sound is a "wail" that hurts and confuses any humans who hear it. This allows the Lamia to take people onto their ships easily for experiments. Because hearing this wail often meant someone nearby would disappear or die, people started to connect the "wail of the Banshee" with death.
