Wales sent a team to the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England. The Games took place from July 28 to August 8, 2022. This was a special event for Wales, as they have competed in every Commonwealth Games since they first started in 1930. This marked their twenty-second time at the Games!

Two famous Welsh athletes, Geraint Thomas and Tesni Evans, proudly carried the flag for Wales at the opening ceremony. Later, Rosie Eccles had the honor of carrying the flag at the closing ceremony.

Wales' Medals at the Games

Wales had a fantastic performance at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. They won a total of 28 medals! This included 8 gold medals, 6 silver medals, and 14 bronze medals. Wales finished in eighth place on the overall medal table.

Sports Highlights

Wales had many exciting moments across different sports.

Athletics

Twenty-four athletes represented Wales in athletics. This included both track and field events. Olivia Breen won a gold medal in the Women's 100 metres T38. Aled Davies also won gold in the Men's discus throw F44/F64. Harrison Walsh earned a bronze medal in the Men's discus throw F44/F64.

Boxing

Nine boxers from Wales competed. Rosie Eccles won a gold medal in the Women's light middleweight category. Ioan Croft also secured a gold in the Men's welterweight event. Other medalists included Jake Dodd and Owain Harris-Allain who won bronze, and Taylor Bevan who won silver.

Cycling

Twenty-four cyclists and para-cyclists represented Wales. James Ball, with his pilot Matt Rotherham, won a gold medal in the Men's tandem sprint B. They also won a silver medal in the Men's tandem 1 km time trial B. Cycling was a strong sport for Wales, earning a total of seven medals. Geraint Thomas won a bronze medal in the Men's road time trial. Emma Finucane won a bronze in the Women's sprint. The Women's team sprint also earned a bronze medal. Eluned King and Will Roberts each won a bronze in their respective points and scratch races.

Diving

Three divers represented Wales. They competed in platform and synchronized platform events.

Gymnastics

Thirteen gymnasts from Wales showed off their skills. Gemma Frizelle won a gold medal in the Women's rhythmic individual hoop event. This was a fantastic achievement!

Hockey

Both the men's and women's hockey teams from Wales competed. The men's team finished in 6th place, and the women's team finished in 8th place.

Judo

Six judoka competed for Wales. Natalie Powell won a silver medal in the Women's 78 kg category. Jasmine Hacker-Jones earned a bronze medal in the Women's 63 kg event.

Lawn Bowls

Fourteen lawn bowls players represented Wales. Jarrad Breen and Daniel Salmon won a gold medal in the Men's pairs. The Mixed pairs B2–3 team, including Julie Thomas and Gordon Llewellyn, won a silver medal. The Men's triples team also won a bronze medal.

Netball

The Welsh women's netball team competed and finished in 8th place.

Rugby Sevens

The Welsh men's rugby sevens team competed in the tournament. They finished in 11th place.

Squash

Five squash players represented Wales. Joel Makin won a silver medal in the Men's singles event.

Swimming

Twenty swimmers represented Wales. Medi Harris won a bronze medal in the Women's 100 metre backstroke. Lily Rice also won a bronze medal in the Women's 100 metre backstroke S8.

Table Tennis

Seven table tennis players competed for Wales. Joshua Stacey won a gold medal in the Men's singles C8–10 para-sport event. Charlotte Carey and Anna Hursey won a bronze medal in the Women's doubles.

Triathlon

Six triathletes represented Wales. The Mixed relay team, including Dominic Coy, Iestyn Harrett, Olivia Mathias, and Non Stanford, won a silver medal.

Weightlifting

Seven weightlifters competed for Wales. They showed great strength in their events.

Wrestling

Two wrestlers represented Wales at the Games.
