Wales at the Commonwealth Games facts for kids
Wales is one of only six countries that have competed in every Commonwealth Games since they first started in 1930. The other countries are Australia, Canada, England, New Zealand, and Scotland.
When it comes to the Commonwealth Games, Wales competes as its own team. This is similar to how they compete in the Six Nations Rugby Championship, Rugby World Cup, and international association football (soccer) games. However, for other big events like the Olympic Games, Welsh athletes compete as part of the wider United Kingdom team.
The organization called Commonwealth Games Wales (which is Welsh: Gemau'r Gymanwlad Cymru in Welsh) helps manage the Welsh team. They support Welsh athletes and make sure they can take part in the games.
Wales has also had the honor of hosting the Commonwealth Games once. This happened in 1958 in Cardiff, when the event was known as the 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games.

Symbols of Team Wales
The Welsh Flag
Team Wales proudly uses the Welsh national flag, known as Y Ddraig Goch (which means "The Red Dragon"), at the Commonwealth Games. This famous flag is used by all Welsh sports teams that compete separately from the United Kingdom.
The Welsh Victory Song
When a Welsh athlete wins a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, the Welsh national anthem is played. This anthem is called Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau, which translates to "Land of My Fathers."
