The Wall of Welcome is a huge, colorful mosaic artwork. It is located in the Crestview neighborhood of Austin, Texas. This amazing wall is 120 feet long. It was created by many people from the community. The wall shows the history of the Brentwood and Crestview neighborhoods.


Creating the Wall of Welcome

The idea for the Wall of Welcome started in 2002. An artist named Jean Graham first imagined it. She lived in the nearby Brentwood neighborhood. Jean wanted to create a piece of public art that showed the community's spirit.

A Community Project

Making the wall was a big team effort. Jean Graham and hundreds of neighbors worked together. They spent five years turning the idea into a reality. This project brought many people together.

How It Was Funded

To build the wall, money needed to be raised. Fundraising began in 2003. The first Violet Crown Festival helped collect money. This festival became a yearly event. It supported the wall's creation.

Completion and Dedication

The Wall of Welcome was finished in March 2008. It was a special day when the wall was officially opened. This event celebrated all the hard work. It also celebrated the community's history.
