Exploring Wallum Lake

Getting on the Water

If you want to go boating on Wallum Lake, you're in luck! There are two easy-to-use boat ramps. One ramp is at the north end of the lake, near Wallum Lake Road in Douglas, Massachusetts. The other ramp is at the very south end, in Burrillville, Rhode Island.

Fish You Might Find

A study from 1994 looked at the fish living in Wallum Lake. They found ten different kinds of fish! Some of the most common ones you might catch are largemouth bass, yellow perch, and bluegills.

Other fish that live here include pumpkinseed, chain pickerel, and eels. You might also find landlocked alewife and even some special salmon. If you plan to fish, remember that licenses from either Rhode Island or Massachusetts are valid. However, you must follow the fishing rules set by Rhode Island.

Stocking the Lake

Wallum Lake is a popular spot for fishing because it is regularly "stocked" with fish. This means that rainbow trout and brown trout are added to the lake by people. Rainbow trout are put in for "put-and-take" fishing, which means you can catch them and keep them. The state of Rhode Island also adds many landlocked salmon to the lake. Sometimes, they even add larger "broodstock" salmon.
