Walter L. Davis (born July 2, 1979) is an American athlete. He is famous for competing in the triple jump. Sometimes, he also competes in the long jump. Walter was born in Lafayette, Louisiana.
Walter Davis is a very successful jumper. He won gold medals at major world championships. These include the 2005 World Outdoor Championships. He also won the 2006 World Indoor Championships.
Amazing Jumps
One of Walter Davis's most memorable moments happened in 2004. This was during the Olympic Trials. He made an incredible jump in the triple jump final.
During his landing, his foot touched the sand first. This was unusual, as jumpers usually land on their bottom. The official measurement of this jump was 17.63 meters. Videos of the jump suggested it might have been even longer.
College Career
Walter Davis was a student at Louisiana State University. While there, he was a key member of their track and field team. He trained hard and developed his jumping skills.
