Walter Antonio Gassire Osorio (born August 21, 1946 – died March 19, 2023) was a talented football goalkeeper from Uruguay. He was famous for winning the top league in Mexico, called the Mexican Primera División, with his team Deportivo Toluca.

Walter Gassire's Football Journey
Walter Gassire was born in Florida, Uruguay. He started playing football when he was young, joining the youth teams of C.A. Peñarol. This was a big step for his future career.
Early Career in Uruguay
In 1963, Walter began his professional football journey with Montevideo Wanderers. He played there for two years. After that, in 1965, he moved to Defensor Sporting, where he played for six seasons. These early years helped him become a skilled goalkeeper.
Success in Mexican Football
In 1974, Walter Gassire moved to Mexico. He joined Deportivo Toluca and played there for six seasons. This was a very successful time for him. In the 1974–75 season, he helped his team win the league championship!
While playing for Toluca in 1980, Walter faced a health challenge. He later recovered and continued his career. He then joined Atletas Campesinos. After six months, he moved to Atlético Español for a short time. He finished his playing career at Tampico Madero in 1983.
Life After Playing
After he stopped playing football, Walter Gassire became a football coach. He worked as an assistant manager for Toluca in 1986. Later, in 2011, he was an assistant manager again, working with his former teammate, Héctor Hugo Eugui.
Walter Gassire passed away on March 19, 2023, at the age of 76. He is remembered as a great goalkeeper and a champion.
