Walter Keeler was an important person who helped start the town of Norwalk, Connecticut. He was born in 1615. He was one of the very first people to settle there.
A Founder of Norwalk
Walter Keeler is known as a "founding settler" of Norwalk. This means he was among the first people to build homes and create the community there. He arrived in the area a long time ago, in the 1600s.
Not much information about Walter Keeler exists today in old records. However, we know he was listed in a special document from 1655 called the "Table of Estates." This document likely listed the early landowners in Norwalk.
Walter also had a brother named Ralph Keeler. Ralph was another early settler of Norwalk. He was part of an earlier group of settlers from 1650, mentioned in something called the "Ludlow Agreement."
Remembering Walter Keeler
To honor the people who started Norwalk, there is a special "Founders Stone." This stone has the names of the first settlers carved into it. You can find Walter Keeler's name on this stone. It is located in the East Norwalk Historical Cemetery. This stone helps us remember the important role he played in the history of Norwalk.
