Walter Nahún López Cárdenas (born September 1, 1977 – died August 9, 2015) was a talented football player from Honduras. He was known for playing as a wingback, a position that involves both defending and attacking on the sides of the field.

Walter López's Football Journey with Clubs
Walter López began his professional football journey in Honduras. His very first game in the country's top league, the Honduran National Football League, happened on November 16, 1997. He was playing for Platense in a match against Vida in La Ceiba.
Walter was special because he was one of only two footballers from the Ocotepeque Department to play in the Honduran national league. He also played for other well-known Honduran teams like Marathón, Olimpia, and Motagua.

Walter López also had the chance to play football outside of Honduras. He played for clubs in Austria, such as BSV Bad Bleiberg and Austria Salzburg. Walter López's Personal Life and Tragic Passing
Walter López was known by the nickname el General (The General). His mother's name was Ovidia Cárdenas, and he had a brother named Fernando.
Sadly, Walter López passed away on August 9, 2015. He was visiting relatives of his wife, Lesly Yamileth, in Guatemala when he tragically died due to violence. This happened near the Estadio Comunal stadium in La Mesilla, which is in the La Democracia municipality of Guatemala. He passed away shortly after at a local health center.
