Walter John Matuszczak (born February 5, 1918 – died November 18, 2001) was an American football player. He later changed his last name to Matuszak. Besides playing football, he was also a veterinarian. He started the DeWitt Animal Hospital in New York and worked there until 1971. Walter Matuszak also owned a golf course called Wa-Noa Golf Club. He served as a captain in the Army Veterinary Corps during World War II.

Walter Matuszczak was born in Lowville, New York. His parents were Polish immigrants. He was the youngest of twelve children in his family.
College Life and Sports
Walter went to Cornell University. He played college football for the Cornell Big Red football team. In 1939, he was chosen as a first-team quarterback for the 1939 College Football All-America Team. This was a big honor, meaning he was one of the best players in the country. He was also named to the Second 1939 College Football All Polish-American Team.
In 1940, his teammates chose him to be the captain of the Cornell football team. Walter was a talented athlete. He also played for Cornell's basketball and baseball teams. In 1979, he was added to the Cornell Athletics Hall of Fame. This recognized his great achievements in sports at the university.
Education and Career
Walter Matuszczak graduated from Cornell in 1941. That same year, the New York Giants football team picked him in the 10th round of the NFL draft. After college, he decided to study veterinary medicine. He went to the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine. He finished his studies and became a veterinarian in 1943.
Family Life
Walter Matuszczak married Mildred C. Nohle on August 22, 1942. They had two daughters, Judith L. Hodhe and Diane J. Tsibulsky. They also had two sons, W. David Matuszak and Charles Matuszak.
