Walter Stewart (born around 1480, died 1575) was an important Scottish landowner. He was known as the 3rd Laird of Baldorran. He was also the 2nd Bailie of Balquhidder. Walter Stewart is the ancestor of many Stewart families. These families include the Stewarts of Ardvorlich, Annat, and Glenfinglas.

Walter Stewart was born about 1480. His birthplace was Baldorran, in Campsie, Stirlingshire, Scotland. He was the third son of William Stewart. William Stewart was the 2nd Laird of Baldorran. Walter's mother was Marion Helen Campbell. She came from Glenorchy.

Walter's father, William Stewart, started the Balquhidder Stewart clan. A "clan" is a group of families connected by a common ancestor.

Becoming a Royal Official

Walter Stewart took over from his father. He became the Royal Bailie of Balquhidder. A "Bailie" was a special officer. They managed lands for the King or Queen. In September 1500, Walter was officially given ownership of his family's lands. This was confirmed by his father, Sir William Stewart.

Walter Stewart's Family

Walter Stewart married Euphemia Reideugh. She was also known as "Ruddock." Euphemia's father was James Reideugh. He was in charge of the household for King James IV. Walter and Euphemia had two children:

  • James Stewart: He was born around 1510 in Campsie. He married a daughter of Patrick Stewart of Glenbucky.
  • Helen Stewart: She was born about 1515 in Perthshire. She married a man named John Dog.
