Waltz is a small, unincorporated community in Wayne County, Michigan. This means it's not a city or town with its own government. Instead, it's part of Huron Charter Township. Waltz is located about 25 kilometers (15 miles) southwest of Detroit.

How Waltz Began
The community of Waltz started in 1857. A man named Joseph Waltz, Sr., moved his family from Detroit. They settled on a 160-acre farm. This farm was located along what is now Waltz Road.
When Joseph Waltz, Sr., passed away in 1865, his wife Mary took over the property. Later, in 1867, she gave the land to their son, Joseph Waltz, Jr.
Growth of the Community
In 1872, the area of Waltz was officially mapped out. The community then grew with more land added over time. Joseph Waltz, Jr., was very important to Waltz's early development.
Key People and Businesses
Joseph Waltz, Jr., opened a general store on Territorial Road. This store later became Krzyske Brothers Hardware, which is still open today! He also started a German bier garten and hall. This business is still operating as the Waltz Inn.
Joseph Waltz, Jr.'s Public Service
Joseph Waltz, Jr., was also a public servant. He held many important positions. He was the Clerk and Supervisor for Huron Township. He also served as the Superintendent of the Poor for Wayne County. In this role, he helped create the Wayne County Hospital in Eloise.
Later, he became a State Representative. As a representative, he played a big part in the city of Detroit buying Belle Isle Park.
Early Life and Industries
Waltz was located along the Flint and Pere Marquette Railroad. It even had its own train station! The community was known for making charcoal and bricks.
Other businesses in early Waltz included the Waltz Hotel. There was also the Waltz Cheese and Molasses Company. The Harbaurer Pickle Company was another important business.
Spiritual Life in Waltz
In its early days, Waltz had two churches. However, St. John's Lutheran Church became the main center for spiritual learning. It was founded in the community in 1857.

Today, Waltz is still an active community. It is located near Interstate 275 at exit 8. The children in Waltz attend schools in the Huron School District.
