Wanderley Alves dos Reis, better known as Wando, was a famous Brazilian singer and songwriter. He was born on October 2, 1945, and passed away on February 8, 2012. Wando was well-known for his romantic songs and unique style of music.

Wando got his nickname from his grandmother when he was a child. He moved from Cajuri to Juiz de Fora, a city in Brazil. There, he studied classical guitar and started getting involved with music around age 20. During this time, he joined music groups and performed at dances. Later, he moved to Volta Redonda and worked as a truck driver and marketer.

Wando's Music Career

Wando began his singing career in 1969. He became very successful in 1973. He also wrote songs for other popular Brazilian singers. For example, he wrote "O Importante é Ser Fevereiro" for Jair Rodrigues in 1974.

Famous Songs

Wando wrote "A Menina e o Poeta", which was recorded by Roberto Carlos in 1976. Some of Wando's biggest hits include "Chora Coração" from 1985. This song was even part of the soundtrack for a Brazilian soap opera called Roque Santeiro. His most famous song was "Fogo e Paixão", released in 1988 on his album "O Mundo Romântico de Wando".

Later Life and Passing

On January 27, 2012, Wando was admitted to a hospital in Belo Horizonte. He had serious heart problems. He had an emergency procedure called an angioplasty and needed machines to help him breathe. Wando passed away on February 8, 2012, at 8 AM. He died from a heart attack at the Biocor Institute in Nova Lima, Minas Gerais.
