Wapos Bay facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Wapos Bay is a super cool stop motion animated TV show for families. In stop motion, puppets or objects are moved tiny bits at a time and photographed, making them look like they're moving all by themselves! The show follows the fun adventures of three (or sometimes four) kids: Raven, her brother Talon, their cousin T-Bear, and their friend Devon. They live in a small Cree community way up north in Saskatchewan, Canada.

You can watch Wapos Bay across Canada on the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (as part of APTN Kids). In the United States, it airs on the First Nations Experience Network (FNX). The show is available in several languages, including Cree, English, French, and Inuktitut.

The series was created by Dennis and Melanie Jackson from Saskatoon. It offers a funny and heartwarming look at Indigenous life, showing positive role models for kids. Famous people like hockey player Jordin Tootoo and actor Lee Majors have even lent their voices to characters in the show!

Awards and Recognition

Wapos Bay has won some awesome awards! The very first episode, called There's No "I" In Hockey, won the Canada Award. This award is for the best Canadian show that celebrates different cultures. It also won a Golden Sheaf Award for being the best children's production.

Later, in 2012, a special movie called Wapos Bay: Long Goodbyes was nominated for a Kidscreen Award. It won for Best One-Off, Special or TV Movie! This was a big win against other popular shows. The first two seasons of Wapos Bay were made with the help of the National Film Board of Canada.
