Waqar Ahmad Shah (born July 6, 1943 – died April 15, 2018) was an important political leader from India. He was known for his work in the Bahraich district.

Early Life and Education
Waqar Ahmad Shah grew up in Bahraich. He finished his early schooling there. Later, he earned an advanced degree from Kanpur University.
Working as a Teacher and Doctor
In his younger years, Shah worked as a teacher. He taught at Ameermah Primary School, an elementary school in Bahraich. From 1975 to 1982, he worked as a medical officer. This means he practiced as a doctor at Dargah's hospital. He also had his own clinic in Bahraich.
Shah was a member of the Indian Medical Association's Bahraich branch since 1976. He also helped with other important groups. These included the Red Cross Society in Bahraich. He was also part of committees for eye care and college management.
Political Journey
Waqar Ahmad Shah began his political career in 1989. He joined a political party called Janata Dal. He was first elected to the Assembly in 1993. This was for the Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh. He won this election as a member of the Samajwadi Party.
Key Roles in the Assembly
Shah was elected to the Assembly many times. He won the Bahraich seat five times in a row. This showed how much people trusted him.
- From 1993 to 1994, he was part of the Public Accounts Committee. This group checks how public money is spent.
- From 1996 to 2003, he was a key member of the Samajwadi Party committee.
- In 2003, he became the Deputy Speaker of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly. This is a very important role. He helped lead the Assembly's meetings.
- From May 2004 to July 2004, he served as the Acting Speaker.
- In August 2004, he became a Cabinet Minister. He was in charge of Labor and Employment for Uttar Pradesh. He held this job until May 2007.
- He became a Cabinet Minister for Labor and Employment again in 2012.
Later Years in Politics
In 2014, Waqar Ahmad Shah became very ill. Because of his health, he stepped down from his role as a Cabinet Minister.
Community Development Work
Waqar Ahmad Shah cared a lot about making his community better. He often spoke about improving important services.
