Warm Springs is a former town in Nye County, Nevada. It is located near a mountain pass between the Kawich and Hot Creek mountain ranges. You can find it where U.S. Route 6 meets State Route 375. This second road is famously known as the "Extraterrestrial Highway." Warm Springs is about 50 miles east of Tonopah. Today, only two old buildings are left there.
A Look Back at Warm Springs
The first people to settle in Warm Springs arrived in 1866. It became a useful stop for stagecoaches and other travelers. They could rest and get water from the natural warm springs.
For a short time, Warm Springs even had its own post office. It was open from January 1924 to June 1929. In 1947, the Fallini brothers bought the springs. Before that, a person named Thomas Hurt had been taking care of the springs for several years.
Warm Springs was never a big place. Over time, fewer and fewer people lived there. Eventually, it became a ghost town. This means almost everyone moved away. For a long time, the only things left were a single streetlight, a telephone box, and some small huts. These huts were built over the warm pools that gave the town its name.
