Warradale is a friendly suburb located in Adelaide, the capital city of South Australia. It is part of the City of Marion area. The name Warradale comes from an Aboriginal word, Warripari. This word, from the Kaurna people, means "windy place by the river."
Warradale is in the southwest part of Adelaide. It is about 12 kilometres (7.5 miles) from the city centre. Getting around is easy with the Seaford-Tonsley train line and several main roads nearby.
Discovering Warradale's Past
How Warradale Got Its Name
The story of Warradale's name began in January 1917. Some people living in an area called Oaklands wanted a post office. However, postal officials had a problem with the name "Oaklands." There were already other places called Oaklands, one in Yorke Peninsula and another in New South Wales. This could cause confusion for mail delivery.
So, the local residents suggested a new name: Warradale. The PMG Department liked this idea and accepted it. The local council was not as happy about the change, but the name Warradale stuck!
