Warren Berlinger (born August 31, 1937 – died December 2, 2020) was an American actor. He was known for playing many different kinds of characters in movies, on TV shows, and on Broadway plays. He also appeared in many commercials.

Early Life and Family

Warren Berlinger was born in Brooklyn, New York City, New York. His family was Jewish. His parents were Frieda and Elias Berlinger. His father was a building contractor. The family also owned a glass store called Berlinger's Glass Store.

Warren Berlinger's Acting Career

Warren Berlinger started acting when he was young. In 1946, he performed in the first Broadway show of Annie Get Your Gun. He acted alongside famous stars like Ethel Merman.

Early TV and Movie Roles

Warren also appeared on early television shows. He was a guest star on Howdy Doody and Kraft Television Theatre. He also acted in a detective series called Johnny Staccato. He even worked with the famous singer and actor Elvis Presley.

In 1960, Warren acted with Jack Lemmon and Ricky Nelson in the movie The Wackiest Ship in the Army. He played a character named Radioman A.J. Sparks.

Broadway and Hollywood Success

Warren Berlinger acted in both Broadway plays and Hollywood movies. He was in Blue Denim on stage and in the movie version. For his stage role in Blue Denim, he won a Theatre World Award. He also appeared in other plays like The Happy Time and Anniversary Waltz. This play was later made into a movie called Happy Anniversary. In 1961, he was in Come Blow Your Horn. He also performed in London in 1963 in the play How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.

His career as a character actor began in 1956. His first film as a character actor was Teenage Rebel. He continued to act in movies like Because They're Young (1960), Billie (1965), and Thunder Alley (1967).

Later TV and Film Appearances

In 1965, Warren Berlinger starred in a part of Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color called Kilroy. He also played Phillip Short in the 1966 movie Spinout.

Later in his career, he appeared on many popular TV shows. These included Charlie's Angels, Happy Days, and That Girl. On Happy Days, he played a tough army recruiter named Sergeant Betchler. He also appeared on Love, American Style, Operation Petticoat, Friends, Columbo, and Murder, She Wrote. In 1973, he was a regular actor on the TV show A Touch of Grace.

Warren also acted in many other films. Some of these include The Long Goodbye (1973), Lepke (1975), The Shaggy D.A. (1976), The Cannonball Run (1981), and The World According to Garp (1982). He also appeared in That Thing You Do! (1996).

In 2006, Warren Berlinger celebrated 60 years of being in show business. He was also an honorary mayor and sheriff in Chatsworth, California. His last acting role was in 2016 on an episode of the TV show Grace and Frankie.

Personal Life and Family

In 1960, Warren Berlinger married actress Betty Lou Keim. They had four children together. Betty Lou Keim passed away in 2010.

Warren Berlinger died on December 2, 2020, from cancer. He was 83 years old. He passed away at the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia, California.
