Warren Parish, Louisiana facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Warren Parish was a former parish in Louisiana. A parish is like a county in other states. It was created in 1811 from parts of another parish called Concordia Parish.

Warren Parish was located in what are now Madison Parish and East Carroll Parish. The northern part of today's Madison Parish and all of today's East Carroll Parish used to be part of Warren Parish.

Why Was Warren Parish Created?

In 1811, the government of Louisiana decided to create this new parish. It was formed to help manage the growing population and land in that area. Creating new parishes helped with local government and services.

Where Was Warren Parish Located?

Warren Parish was in the northeastern part of Louisiana. It stretched along the Mississippi River. This area was important for farming and trade back then.

  • The northern part of what is now Madison Parish was included.
  • All of what is now East Carroll Parish was also part of it.

When Did Warren Parish Disappear?

Warren Parish did not last very long. The state government, also known as the legislature, decided to get rid of it in 1814. This means it only existed for about three years.

After it was removed:

  • The northern part of its land went to Ouachita Parish.
  • The southern part of its land went back to Concordia Parish.

So, Warren Parish was a short-lived part of Louisiana's history, showing how state boundaries can change over time.
