The Wasatch Plateau is a large, flat-topped area of land in central Utah, United States. It sits southeast of the Wasatch Range. This plateau is also a part of the bigger Colorado Plateau region.

Exploring the Wasatch Plateau

The Wasatch Plateau is quite high up! Its average elevation is about 8,825 feet (2,690 m) above sea level. The plateau covers a large area of about 2,792 square miles (7,230 km2).

Highest Point and Borders

The very highest spot on the Wasatch Plateau is South Tent Mountain. This peak reaches an elevation of 11,263 feet (3,433 m).

The plateau has natural borders all around it:

  • To the north, you'll find the Spanish Fork Canyon.
  • The Price Canyon is to the northeast.
  • On the east and southeast is the Castle Valley.
  • Interstate 70 marks the southern edge.
  • The Plateau Valley and the Sevier Plateau are to the southwest.
  • Finally, the Sanpete Valley is on the northwest side.

Who Manages the Plateau?

Most of the Wasatch Plateau is inside the Manti-La Sal National Forest. This means the United States Forest Service takes care of it. They help protect the land and its wildlife. They also manage how people use the forest for fun activities.
