Washington High School (WHS) is the oldest public high school in Fremont, California. It opened its doors on August 25, 1891. This school is part of the Fremont Unified School District. Its motto is "Educate, Challenge, and Inspire." The school mascot is the Husky, and its colors are orange and black.

Washington High School offers many activities outside of classes. These include sports and student publications.

Sports Teams

WHS has 14 different sports teams. They all compete in the Mission Valley Athletic League (MVAL).

  • Fall Sports: cross country, American football, gymnastics, girls' tennis, girls' volleyball, and water polo.
  • Winter Sports: basketball, soccer, and wrestling.
  • Spring Sports: badminton, baseball, softball, golf, lacrosse, swimming, track and field, seniors vs. juniors powderpuff, boys' volleyball, and boys' tennis.
  • Year-Round: Cheerleading is active throughout the school year.

The Tak Fudenna Stadium is located on the Washington High School campus. This large stadium has 5,000 seats. It is used by all five high schools in Fremont for their sports events.

Student Publications

Students at WHS create several publications:

  • The Hatchet: This is the school's monthly newspaper. It won the "Best of the West" award in 2011.
  • The Washingtonian: This is the school's yearbook.
  • The Scrivener: This is a literary magazine published once a year. It is created by The Scrivener Society student club.
