Wasson is a small place in Saline County, Illinois, United States. It's called an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does. Instead, it's part of a larger county area. Wasson is located about 3 miles (4.8 km) southwest of a town called Eldorado, right along U.S. Route 45.
Wasson's Early Days
Wasson began as a special kind of village called a "company town." This means it was built and owned by a company, in this case, the Wasson Coal Company. The company built homes and other buildings for its workers and their families. This made it easy for miners to live close to where they worked.
How Wasson Got Its Name
The village was named after C.M. Wasson and his son. C.M. Wasson was a very important person in the area's history. He started out in a different business, but he became a leader in the coal mining and banking industries in Southern Illinois. His work helped shape the region's economy.
