How Teams Qualified for the Olympics
To play water polo at the Paris 2024 Olympics, teams had to qualify. The rules for qualifying were set by the International Olympic Committee and World Aquatics. France, as the host country, automatically got a spot for both their men's and women's teams.
Other teams earned their spots in different ways. The best teams from the 2023 World Aquatics Championships in Japan qualified. Also, top teams from special events held in different parts of the world (like Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas) earned a place. If a continent didn't have its own qualifying event, the best team from that continent at the next World Championships would get the spot.
Finally, more teams qualified at the 2024 World Aquatics Championships in Qatar. The top four men's teams and top two women's teams from that event completed the list of countries going to Paris.
