History of Watson
The Watson Post Office first opened on February 20, 1894. It was named after George A. Watson, who helped establish it.
Early Schools and Churches
The very first Live Oak School was built in 1895. It was on land that Rev. Joel Ott generously donated. Over the years, different buildings were used for classes. Eventually, a new site was bought, and a two-story school building was constructed.
The Live Oak Methodist Church has a long history in Watson. Records show that the first church building was put up before the American Civil War. Sadly, soldiers from the Union Army destroyed it during the war. After the war, several people, including W.C. Newsom and J.B. Easterly, built a new church. In 1893, another frame church was built, which was used until 1950.
As of 2011, Watson had three churches. The oldest one was later turned into a thrift store. The newest church, finished in late 2010, is the tallest building in the community.
