Waubeek is a small, unincorporated community located in Linn County, Iowa, United States. An unincorporated community is a place that doesn't have its own local government, like a city or town. Instead, it's usually managed by the county.

Where is Waubeek?

Waubeek is found in the state of Iowa. It sits right on the Wapsipinicon River. You can find it north of a place called Whittier. It's also southwest of Prairieburg.

A Look Back at Waubeek's History

Waubeek has an interesting past. Before Waubeek was officially set up, there was a town called Paddington. It was founded nearby in 1855. When Waubeek was formally established, either in 1855 or 1859, Paddington became part of it.

Early Services and Growth

Waubeek got its own post office in 1858. This was an important step for the community. By 1911, Waubeek was a busy little place. It had four stores where people could buy things. There was also a creamery, which processed milk. The community had two churches and schools for children. Even with all this, Waubeek did not have a railroad.

Population Changes

The number of people living in Waubeek changed over time. In 1915, about 210 people called Waubeek home. By 1940, the population had grown slightly to 225 residents.

The Post Office Closes

Over the years, many small communities changed. Waubeek's post office, which had served the area for over a century, closed its doors in 1960.
