The Wauwermans Islands are a group of small islands covered in snow. They are the most northern islands in the Wilhelm Archipelago. These islands are located in Antarctica, a very cold continent. No one lives on these islands.
How Were They Found?
The Wauwermans Islands were first seen by a German expedition. This trip happened in 1873 and 1874. It was led by a person named Dallmann. Later, a Belgian expedition saw the islands again. This was between 1897 and 1899. The Belgian group was led by Gerlache.
Who Are They Named After?
The islands were named after Lieutenant General Wauwermans. He was the president of the Société Royale Belge de Géographie. This group helped support the Belgian expedition.
