About Waxhaw
Waxhaw is found about 3 miles (5 km) south of Gunnison. It is also around 6 miles (10 km) north of Rosedale. This community was once known by another name, Waxhaw Plantation.
Waxhaw's Location and History
Waxhaw is situated along the route of the former Yazoo and Mississippi Valley Railroad. This railroad used to be a very important way for people and goods to travel across the area.
A post office served the Waxhaw community for many years. It was open from 1927 until 1955.

The community of Waxhaw was named after the Waxhaw people. They were a Native American group who lived in the southeastern United States.
