Wayne Barrett (born July 11, 1945 – died January 19, 2017) was an American journalist. He was known for being an investigative reporter. This means he dug deep to find important facts and stories. For 37 years, he worked for a newspaper called The Village Voice. He was a senior editor there until 2011.

Wayne Barrett was born in New Britain, Connecticut, on July 11, 1945. He grew up in Lynchburg, Virginia. He went to Saint Joseph's University and earned a degree in journalism. Later, he got his master's degree from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. He also taught there as a professor for over 30 years.
Wayne Barrett's Journalism Career
After working at The Village Voice, Barrett continued his journalism. He became a fellow at The Nation Institute. He also wrote for Newsweek magazine.

In 2016, Barrett's 1991 book about Trump was re-released. Its new title was Trump: The Greatest Show on Earth: The Deals, the Downfall, the Reinvention.

Wayne Barrett also wrote a book called Rudy!: An Investigative Biography of Rudolph Giuliani. This book was made into a TV movie in 2003. It was called Rudy: The Rudy Giuliani Story.

Wayne Barrett died in Manhattan on January 19, 2017. He passed away due to lung problems. It was a coincidence that he died the day before Donald Trump became president.
