Starting Out (2006–2013)
Wayne Barrett started learning karate when he was ten years old. Later, he switched to Muay Thai, which is a type of kickboxing from Thailand. As an amateur, he had an amazing record. He won 19 fights and only lost 1. Out of his wins, 15 were by knockout, meaning he ended the fight early.
He also did well in amateur boxing. He won a Golden Gloves title in his home state of Georgia. After that, he moved to New York City to train with top coaches. He trained with Rob Rogan for Muay Thai and Jason Strout for striking. He also trained with Kelly Richardson. Wayne practiced with many famous fighters. These included Douglas Lima and Jarrell Miller.
On April 29, 2011, Wayne won a big title. He defeated Simon Camaj by a unanimous decision. This means all the judges agreed he won. He became the WKA Amateur United States Cruiserweight Muay Thai Champion. His last amateur fight was on December 7, 2012. He won that fight too, against Quinton O'Brien.
Wayne had his first professional fight on February 22, 2013. It was at an event called Take-On Muay Thai XIX. He won by technical knockout (TKO). His opponent, Strahinja Ivanović, had to stop fighting in the second round.
Fighting in Glory (2013–Present)
After his first pro win, Wayne joined Glory. He competed in their middleweight division. His first fight with Glory was on June 22, 2013. He fought Mike Lemaire at Glory 9: New York. Mike had never lost a fight before. Wayne quickly showed he was in charge. He even made Mike take a standing eight count in the first round. In the second round, Wayne knocked Mike down with a powerful knee. Then, he finished the fight with a left hook and a right cross. Mike fell to the ground, and Wayne won by knockout.
Wayne had another great performance on September 28, 2013. This was at Glory 10: Los Angeles - Middleweight World Championship Tournament. He fought Robby Plotkin and knocked him out in the first round. Wayne had already knocked Robby down earlier in the fight.
For his fourth professional fight, Wayne faced a much tougher opponent. He fought Joe Schilling, who was a Glory Middleweight Tournament Champion. This big fight was the main event at Glory 12: New York on November 23, 2013. Wayne started strong in the second round. He knocked Schilling down twice. The first knockdown came from a right overhand punch. The second was a right hook right as the round ended. In the third round, Schilling fought back. He knocked Wayne down with a knee. But Wayne got back up before the referee counted to ten. The judges decided the winner, and Wayne won by unanimous decision.
On June 21, 2014, Wayne was part of a special tournament. It was called Glory 17: Los Angeles - Last Man Standing. He fought Bogdan Stoica in the first round.
