Playing for the Detroit Tigers
Because he played so well, Wayne got to join the Detroit Tigers in the Major Leagues in 1965. He played in a few games as an outfielder. He also sometimes came into the game as a pinch hitter (someone who bats instead of another player) or a pinch runner (someone who runs the bases instead of another player).
Wayne played one game as a starting centerfielder. He did not get any hits in that game. He also played for the Tigers again in 1969. Overall, he played in nine Major League games. He got one base on balls (a walk) and scored one run. Most of his career was spent playing in the minor leagues until 1973.
