Eau Pleine is a small town located in Marathon County, Wisconsin, in the United States. It's part of the larger Wausau area. In 2010, about 773 people lived here. Some smaller communities like Little Rose and Weber are also found within the town. There were once other communities called Staadts and March Rapids, but they are now ghost towns.

The Story of Eau Pleine
The land that is now Eau Pleine was first measured and mapped in September 1851. This was done by a team working for the U.S. government. They were surveying the area to create official maps.
Early Maps and Discoveries
Two years later, in September 1853, another team walked through the woods and streams. They marked the corners of each section of land. They used tools like a chain for measuring and a compass to find directions.
After their work, the surveyor described the area. He said that most of the land was gently rolling, with some flat areas. The soil was good, with clay and gravel underneath. The area was covered in many types of trees. These included hemlock, birch, elm, maple, and oak.
The Big Eau Pleine River
The Big Eau Pleine River flows through the northern part of the town. The surveyor noted that the river was "quite crooked" and changed in width. It had a quick current with small rapids and a bottom made of stone and gravel. Smaller streams also flowed into the Big Eau Pleine.

The name Eau Pleine comes from the French language. It means "full water" or "stock river." This name likely refers to the Big Eau Pleine River that runs through the town.
