How Weber City Got Its Name
The name "Weber City" has a fun story behind it. Before it was called Weber City, the area was known as "Moccasin Gap." This name came from a natural opening in the mountains that US 23 now passes through.
A local business owner named Frank Parker Sr. heard the name "Weber City" on an old radio show called Amos 'n' Andy. In the show, it was a fancy place. As a joke, Mr. Parker put up a sign outside his gas station that said "Welcome to Weber City." People in the area started using the name, and by the time the town officially became a town in 1954, everyone knew it as Weber City. So, that's the name they chose!
