Building a Grand Home
The design for Wells House was created by a famous architect named Daniel Robertson. He was known for designing other big houses in Ireland, like Powerscourt and Kilruddery House. The house you see now was built in the 1830s. It took the place of an even older house that was built in the late 1600s.
From Family Home to Public Gem
For a very long time, the Doyne family lived in Wells House. They owned it until 1964. After them, a German businessman named Gerhard Rosler bought the house in 1965. He lived there with his family. Mr. Rosler even added a bowling alley to the house!
In July 2012, Wells House opened its doors to everyone. Gerhard Rosler's son, Uli, and his wife, Sabine, inherited the property and decided to share it. Since then, it has become the most visited attraction in County Wexford. In 2015, a radio station called Today FM even named it "Ireland's Best Family Day Out."
