The Welsh Language Commissioner (called Comisiynydd y Gymraeg in Welsh) is an important person in the Welsh Government. This person leads a group that helps promote the Welsh language. The job started on April 1, 2012. It was created by a law called the Welsh Language (Wales) Measure 2011.

The main goal is to help more people use Welsh. It also makes sure Welsh is an official language in Wales. The Commissioner sets rules for different groups. This helps people who speak Welsh have more rights.

The Commissioner works independently. Each Commissioner holds the position for seven years.
