Where it Began
The festival was created by members of the Welsh Perry and Cider Society. They got help from a local pub called the Clytha Arms, near Abergavenny. For many years, the festival was held there.
Moving to Caldicot Castle
In 2013, the festival moved to its current home at Caldicot Castle. This historic castle provides a great setting for the event. The festival usually lasts for four days. About 3,000 people visit the festival each year.
What Happens at the Festival?
The festival is a great place to discover many different ciders and perries. There are usually around 120 types of cider and 35 types of perry to try.
International Flavors
In 2018, the festival even featured ciders from other countries. Visitors could taste drinks from England, Ireland, Scotland, France, and the Czech Republic. This shows how popular these drinks are around the world.
Learning and Competing
You can also learn more about cider and perry at the festival. There are special workshops where experts teach you about how these drinks are made. The festival also hosts the annual Welsh Perry & Cider Championships. Here, experts judge the best ciders and perries. The winner gets the title of Champion Cider or Perry Maker of Wales.
Fun for Everyone
Beyond the drinks, the festival offers lots of entertainment. There is live music playing throughout the day. You can also find craft stalls selling unique handmade items. If you want to stay longer, there are camping facilities. You can bring your tent, caravan, or motorhome and stay overnight right at the castle grounds.
