Like many small places from the past, Wenger eventually became a "former settlement," meaning it no longer exists as a populated area.
A Look Back: Wenger's Post Office
One important part of Wenger's history was its post office. A post office is where people send and receive letters and packages. The Wenger post office was open for a short time, from 1882 to 1883. This post office was named after Frederick Wenger. He was the very first postmaster for the community. A postmaster is the person in charge of a post office.
Where Was Wenger Located?
Wenger was situated about 15 miles (24 kilometers) east of a town called Coulterville. Both of these places are in Mariposa County, California. Mariposa County is known for its beautiful natural areas and its history during the California Gold Rush.
