How Wesco Got Its Name

The community of Wesco was not always called by its current name. It was first known as Wilson's Mills. This name came from James Wilson, who owned a local mill in the area. Mills were very important back then for grinding grain.

A post office, which helps send and receive mail, was set up in Wilson's Mills in 1877. Later, in 1907, the name of the community was officially changed to Wesco. The name "Wesco" is a shorter version, or a "contraction," of the Western Electric Supply Company. This company was a telephone utility, meaning it helped provide telephone services to people.
