The West Branch Little Black River is a short river that flows through Quebec, Canada, and northern Maine in the United States. In French, it is also known as Ruisseau à l'Eau Claire, which means "Clearwater brook."
River's Journey
This river starts in the Notre Dame Mountains in Quebec. It begins where two smaller streams meet: the "West Branch Clearwater Brook" and the "Little Clearwater Brook." This starting point is near the town of Saint-Athanase, Quebec.
Flowing Through Quebec
For about 7.8 kilometers (4.8 miles), the river flows through Quebec. It generally moves southeast, passing through different areas before reaching the border between Canada and the United States.
Crossing into Maine
After crossing the border, the river continues its journey for about 6.2 kilometers (3.9 miles) through Maine. It winds its way southeast. Along this path, it is joined by a stream called Morrison Creek.
Finally, the West Branch Little Black River flows into the Little Black River. The Little Black River then continues to flow into the larger Saint John River.
