Town History
West Lebanon was first planned in the fall of 1830. Three people named Ebenezer Purviance, John G. Jemison, and Andrew Fleming helped set it up. The town originally had 64 lots.
It was first called "Lebanon." But in 1869, when the town officially became a town (incorporated), its name changed to West Lebanon. This was probably to avoid confusion with another town called Lebanon in Boone County, Indiana.
West Lebanon grew slowly at first because it wasn't near any big rivers. For many years, only about 20 families lived there. Things changed in 1856 when the Wabash Railroad line was built about a mile north of town. Many people and businesses moved closer to the train station. The original part of the town became known as "Old Town."
In 1916, a Carnegie library was built in West Lebanon. This library is still open today and is called the West Lebanon-Pike Township Public Library.
On January 26, 2011, a fire destroyed some businesses in the town center. It burned down a row of buildings on High Street.
Where is West Lebanon?

East of town, there's a stream called Rock Creek. It flows south towards the Wabash River. A smaller stream, Johnson Branch, crosses the north side of town and feeds into Rock Creek.
According to the 2010 census, West Lebanon covers about 0.62 square miles (1.6 square kilometers) of land. There is no water area within the town limits.
