History of West Village
West Village first opened its doors in 2001. It was built on land that had been empty since the 1980s. This land was originally planned for a huge community called CityPlace.
Several companies worked together to build West Village. These included Urban Partners, Henry S. Miller Interests, Phoenix Property Company, and The CityPlace Company. A famous architect named David M. Schwarz designed the original buildings.
West Village is a "mixed-use" area. This means it has different types of buildings all in one place. You'll find shops, homes, and offices here. The name "West Village" was chosen to remind people of the cool urban neighborhood in New York City. Since it opened, many more apartment buildings have been built nearby, making the area even more lively.
Getting Around West Village
West Village is only about two miles (3.2 km) north of Downtown Dallas. A popular path for running and biking, the Katy Trail, is also very close by.
