What is Klyde Warren Park?

This park is built on top of a part of the Woodall Rodgers Freeway. It covers three city blocks, from Pearl Street to St. Paul Street. The park helps connect the Arts District to other parts of Dallas. It's a central spot where people from Dallas and visitors can gather and have fun.

The park was designed by a company called The Office of James Burnett. It has many different areas for activities. You can find children's play areas and quiet spots for reading. There are also fun fountains, game areas, and even dog parks. In the middle of the park, there's a 6,000-square-foot (560 m2) building. It holds a restaurant and a stage for performances.

Where is Klyde Warren Park Located?

The park is right next to the Arts District. It sits between Downtown Dallas and Uptown. As mentioned, it stretches over three city blocks. It covers the Woodall Rodgers Freeway, which runs below the park. You can even get to the park using the M-line Streetcar.

Many famous buildings are close to the park. These include the Dallas Museum of Art and the Nasher Sculpture Center. The AT&T Performing Arts Center and the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center are also nearby. There are also fancy condos, hotels, and office buildings. The tall Museum Tower is right next to the park too.

How Klyde Warren Park Was Built and is Managed

Building the park started in January 2009. A special "ground-making" ceremony happened in September 2009. The park officially opened its doors on October 27, 2012.

Designing such a unique park was a big job. Two main companies led the design. The Office of James Burnett handled the landscape architecture. Jacobs Engineering Group, Inc. took care of the structural engineering. The whole project was managed by Bjerke Management Solutions.

Building the park cost a lot of money, but it was a team effort! The city of Dallas gave $20 million. The state and federal governments added $20 million through TxDOT. And almost $50 million came from private donations. The biggest gift was $10 million from businessman Kelcy Warren. Because of his generous gift, he got to name the park. He chose to name it after his son, Klyde, who was nine years old at the time. In 2009, the park also received $16.7 million in special funds for transportation projects.

Klyde Warren Park is not run by the city. It's privately managed by the Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation. This foundation pays for all the park's features and the many events it hosts. They hold about 1,300 events and programs each year! The foundation continues to raise money from donations. This money helps them keep the park running, offer fun programs, and even build new things.
