Westbourne Park is a suburb located in the southern part of Adelaide, the capital city of South Australia. It was named after a village called Westbourne in Sussex, England. This area was first planned out in 1881.

Westbourne Park is part of the City of Mitcham. Its borders are Cross Road, Goodwood Road, Grange Road, Sussex Terrace, and the Belair train line.

A Look Back in Time: Westbourne Park's History

This area was once known as Cottonville. It was also sometimes called Unley Park. Most of the houses in Westbourne Park were built between 1900 and 1930. This was partly because a tram line, which no longer exists, used to run nearby.

The streets are lined with trees and many homes from that time. You can see different styles of houses. Some are Queen Anne or Mock Tudor style. Others are symmetrical buildings or Californian bungalows, mostly made of red brick.

The southern part of Westbourne Park was first set up as "homestead blocks." These were small pieces of land. It was known as Cottonville. It might have been named after George W. Cotton. He believed in dividing land into small plots for working people. Much of this land was used to grow almond trees.

The very southern part, near Constance Street and Angas Road, was planned for houses in 1921. It was still called Cottonville then.

The northern part of the suburb was originally a private area. The name Westbourne Park was officially suggested in 1945. This was done to help combine similar nearby areas. Cottonville was then included under the Westbourne Park name. The Westbourne Park Post Office opened in 1947. However, it was renamed Hawthorn in 1966.
