Westfield Galleria at Roseville is a large indoor shopping mall in Roseville, California. It has two floors and is owned by a company called Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield. The mall is a popular place for shopping and entertainment.

You can find many stores here, including big department stores like Macy’s, JCPenney, and Nordstrom. There is also a Cinemark movie theater and a Round 1 Entertainment center. The mall also has special luxury stores like Louis Vuitton and Gucci.

The Galleria at Roseville is a very important shopping spot in the city. It is located near other shopping areas like The Fountains at Roseville.

How the Mall Started

On July 25, 1995, plans for building this shopping center were approved. It was going to be built in two stages. Sears was the first big store to agree to be part of the mall.

Then, Nordstrom joined in April 1998. The plans changed to allow for one big building phase. This made it possible for Macy's to join in July 1998. JCPenney also committed in September 1998.

The mall officially opened its doors on August 25, 2000. It started with 120 stores. It also had an outdoor area called the Promenade. This area had shops and restaurants.

A month after the mall opened, the company that owned it was bought by a firm called Rodamco. Later, in 2002, a group of companies bought Rodamco's properties. Westfield Corporation took over the Galleria at Roseville. They first called it "Westfield Shoppingtown Galleria at Roseville." In 2005, they changed the name to "Westfield Galleria at Roseville."

Mall Expansion

In 2004, Westfield decided to make the Galleria even bigger. The plan was to add more shopping space and a new dining area. They also planned to make JCPenney and Macy's stores larger.

To make room, part of the outdoor Promenade was removed. The original food court was also taken down. The Crate & Barrel store moved to a new spot. This big expansion finished in 2009. It cost about $270 million. The mall grew to 1.3 million square feet. This made it the biggest shopping center in the area.

The 2010 Fire Incident

On October 21, 2010, a fire happened at the mall. A 23-year-old person named Alexander Piggee went into the GameStop store. He claimed to have a weapon and set fire to items inside. Employees quickly left the store.

The mall was evacuated, meaning everyone had to leave. Firefighters were called from many nearby cities. Sadly, the mall's fire sprinkler system was turned off by mistake. This allowed the fire to spread quickly.

Much of the mall's north side was destroyed. The roof in that area also fell in. The total damage was about $55 million. The governor at the time, Arnold Schwarzenegger, declared a state of emergency. Mall officials promised to reopen parts of the mall quickly. Some unaffected parts reopened in less than two weeks.

The damaged north wing was rebuilt over the next year. Other parts of the mall were also updated. They got new floors, lights, and signs. The rebuilt north wing reopened on October 6, 2011.

Alexander Piggee later admitted to starting the fire. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Recent Years (2010s and 2020s)

In 2015, the Sears store at the Galleria became part of a new company called Seritage Growth Properties.

In 2018, the Westfield Corporation was bought by a French company. This created the company we know today, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield.

On April 17, 2018, Sears announced that its Roseville store would close. A Cinemark movie theater and a Round 1 entertainment center took over the old Sears building. They opened in 2021 and 2022, offering new fun options for visitors.
