Westover, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Westover is a small, undeveloped area in Crawford County, Missouri, in the U.S. state of Missouri. It's not a city or town, but a community where people live.

Westover is located near a stream called Dry Creek. You can find it at the very end of a road named Missouri Route BB. It's about seven miles south-southeast of a town called Steelville and five miles northeast of Cherryville.

What is Westover Known For?

Westover has a special place called a fish hatchery right on Dry Creek. A fish hatchery is like a farm for fish, where young fish are raised before they are released into rivers and lakes. This hatchery gets its water from natural springs, called Westover Springs, which are found in the Dry Creek valley nearby.

A Look Back: Westover's History

Westover once had its own post office. It opened in 1901 and helped people send and receive mail for many years. However, the post office eventually closed in 1927. The community was named after a person named J. I. H. Westover, who owned a mill in the area a long time ago. A mill is a building where grain is ground into flour.
