About the Wha Ti First Nation
The Wha Ti First Nation is one of the many First Nations groups. These groups are the original peoples of Canada. The Wha Ti First Nation is part of the larger Tłı̨chǫ people. They have their own leaders and ways of life.
Where They Live
The main home for the Wha Ti First Nation is the community of Whatì. This community is located in the Northwest Territories. In 2019, about 635 members lived in Whatì. A smaller number, around 46 members, lived in other places.
How They Are Governed
In 2005, the Wha Ti First Nation became part of the Tłı̨chǫ Government. This is a special government for all Tłı̨chǫ people. Together, they own a large area of land. This land covers about 39,000 square kilometers.
The new Whatì Community Government now handles many daily tasks. It has taken over most of the responsibilities of the Wha Ti First Nation band. However, the Canadian government still recognizes the Wha Ti First Nation. This is for things like official membership records.
