History of Whale Beach
Whale Beach has some interesting buildings and traditions.
Careel House: A Unique Home
One special home in Whale Beach was designed by an architect named Alexander Stewart Jolly. This house, called Careel House, is on Careel Head, which overlooks Whale Beach. It's a single-story house made from sandstone blocks. These blocks were actually dug up right from the land where the house was built! It was built in 1931 and is now a heritage-listed building, meaning it's protected because of its historical importance.
The Big Swim Event
Whale Beach is also the finish line for an exciting event called The Big Swim. This is an ocean swim that covers several kilometres, starting from Palm Beach and ending at Whale Beach. The Big Swim has been a yearly tradition since 1974, happening every January. It's a fun challenge for swimmers and a great event to watch!
