Whistlestop Park is a special area inside several Six Flags amusement parks. It is designed just for kids and has many fun rides. Before it was called Whistlestop Park, these areas were known as Thomas Town.

Park History

From Thomas Town to Whistlestop Park

Before 2011, the children's areas at many Six Flags parks were called Thomas Town. These areas were based on the popular children's character, Thomas the Tank Engine.

In 2006, Six Flags announced plans to partner with several well-known brands. This included Thomas the Tank Engine, The Wiggles, and others. Because of these partnerships, new Thomas Town areas started opening in different Six Flags parks.

Later in 2010, Six Flags decided to change things. They ended their agreements with many licensed characters, including Thomas the Tank Engine. This meant all the Thomas Town areas had to be changed. The rides were renamed, and the areas were given a new theme: Whistlestop Park.

Changes Over the Years

Not all Thomas Town areas became Whistlestop Park. Six Flags Discovery Kingdom's area changed to Seaside Junction. Six Flags New England removed its Thomas Town completely at first.

In 2011, Whistlestop Park officially opened at Six Flags Magic Mountain and Six Flags America. All the old rides got new names and themes. Six Flags New England announced that its former Thomas Town area would be used for future park expansions.

Over the next few years, some Whistlestop Park attractions changed or closed.

  • In 2012, Six Flags Over Georgia removed its Whistlestop Train ride.
  • In 2013, Six Flags New England reopened its own Whistlestop Park. They also added a new ride called Flying Aces.
  • By 2015, Six Flags Over Georgia closed its Whistlestop Park completely. The playground from the area was moved to a new kids' section called Bugs Bunny Boomtown.
  • In 2019, Six Flags New England changed its Whistlestop Park into a service area for Six Flags members. However, the New England Express train ride still operates there. The old Whistlestop Park area at Six Flags Over Georgia was re-themed as the Screampunk District.
