A Look Back in Time
White Eagle was named after a very important leader. This leader was Chief White Eagle (around 1840-1914). He was a principal chief of the Ponca people. Chief White Eagle led his tribe to their new home. This new home was a reservation in what was then called Indian Territory. This territory later became part of Oklahoma. The community has also been known by other names. These include Ponca, White Eagle Agency, and Whiteagle.
Where is White Eagle Located?
White Eagle is found in the southeastern part of Kay County. It is located just east of a river called the Salt Fork. It is also about one and a quarter miles west-northwest of where the Salt Fork meets the Arkansas River. The community is right on U.S. Route 177. It is about five miles south of a larger city called Ponca City.
