Whitfield is a neighborhood located in the northern part of Dundee, Scotland. It was built starting in the 1960s to provide homes for the growing number of people in Dundee. Many of the first homes were low-rise apartments with special walkways connecting them. These were built using a new method called the "Skarne" system, which involved putting together parts made in a factory. Building continued into the early 1970s, especially for the northern areas, which mostly used these Skarne blocks.
Between 1989 and 1995, Whitfield was one of four areas chosen for a special Scottish government program called "New Life for Urban Scotland." This program aimed to improve city areas. During this time, many of the original apartments were taken down, and the neighborhood was redesigned.
Whitfield once had two tall apartment buildings, also known as tower blocks, which were built in 1969. One of these towers, which housed Quarryfield and Whitfield courts, was taken down in 2003. The other tower, home to Greenfield and Kellyfield courts, was demolished in 2004. Since 2006, the area has been undergoing a big redevelopment plan, and more people are moving into the neighborhood.

There were once three primary schools for younger children in the area. Whitfield Primary School and Newfields Primary School joined together in spring 2012 to become Ballumbie Primary School. There were also two other primary schools called Greenfield Primary and Kellyfield. These two schools merged to become Newfields Primary. Another school, Saint Mathews, was located behind Dunbar Park. When Saint Mathews closed, it became a private school called Springfield until it was eventually taken down.
